About

The University of Akron Bachelor of Arts in Global Studies is a multidisciplinary major within the College of Arts and Sciences that includes the humanities, social sciences, languages, and the natural sciences and prepares students to understand and appreciate the interconnected and interdependent nature of the local, national, and international communities that they will enter after graduation by developing a global mindset in relation to the academic, cultural, linguistic, and professional dimensions of a global environment. Global studies can be applied to any career or professional field that connects to the outside world in a meaningful way. It is instrumental in allowing people to understand the various cultures, languages, values, practices, and social context of that world and enable them to interact with it, successfully. These abilities are not only essential for understanding and appreciating the global environment but, also, are extremely pertinent to the broader goal of enhancing critical thinking skills. As the United States Department of Education explained in its 2012 report, Succeeding Globally through International Education and Engagement, “globally competencies are not a luxury for a select few but, rather, are essential skills for all individuals. kron's interdisciplinary major has multiple aspects that students can focus on, such as: Global health, Global justice and inequality, Conflict within communities, Human origins throughout the world, The environment, energy, and scientific innovations, and Migration and border crossings, Security and diplomacy.

Graduate career path includes International Development Officer, Foreign Service Officer, Policy Analyst (Global Affairs, Human Rights, Environment), International Trade & Business Analyst, Human Rights Advocate (NGOs, International Organizations), Global Nonprofit Program Coordinator, Peace & Conflict Resolution Specialist, Immigration & Refugee Services Specialist, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Officer, Global Health Program Associate, International Education Coordinator (Study Abroad, Exchange Programs), Community Development Officer (Global Projects), Environmental Sustainability Coordinator (International Focus), International Media & Communications Specialist, International Humanitarian Aid Worker.

English Language Requirement

The University of Akron will accept, for the purposes of meeting the English proficiency requirement, English taken in 12-year education, or English is designated as the primary and official language and the principle language of instruction. If you do not meet the English language requirements yet, you can achieve the level you need by successfully completing a pre-sessional English programme with the university or submit 

1. English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 (or equivalent) or PTE Score or Duolingo English Test score before you start your course.
