Welcome to the Continuing Care Assistant Certificate (Swift Current Campus)

Learn to function as a Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) team member in home and special care. Through a combination of hands-on classroom learning and labs, you will receive clinical experience in home and long-term care settings. This program focuses on working with the elderly, but you will be prepared to work with clients of all ages.
You’ll support clients with ambulation, meal assistance/nutrition, personal care (bathing, toileting, dressing and grooming), medication monitoring, communication, and end of life care. You’ll work directly with clients across the life span who have a variety of health care needs and you’ll become an important and respected member of the healthcare team.
This job is physically demanding and you will be on your feet continuously throughout your shifts (aside from your coffee and meal breaks).  It can also be mentally and emotionally stressful and students must have a strong support system and coping strategies in place to do well.
Career Path
Continuing care assistants may work in home care settings, long-term care facilities, private care homes, acute care facilities, integrated facilities, supportive housing or special needs classrooms. Most continuing care assistants work for the Saskatchewan Health Authority, as part of a health care team under the supervision of registered nurses, registered psychiatric nurses and-or licensed practical nurses.
