Welcome to the Associate of Science Degree (Early Childhood Education)

The Education and Human Development program is designed to meet the needs of people planning for a career working with children from birth through school-age. Students in the program focus on current research, practical application and critical thinking in professional care settings. Children's growth, developmentally appropriate practice, cultural diversity, observational skills, family support and professional development within the various fields of education and human development are major components of the program. Communicate their understanding of education and human development concepts through written, oral and visual presentations in various professional and academic contexts. Demonstrate an understanding of education and human development theories, trends and needs of young children by developing and maintaining healthy, safe, respectful, challenging and culturally responsive learning environments.

Career Path

Graduates with an AS degree with a major in Education and Human Development are prepared for positions as head teachers, master teachers, and site supervisors. The AS-T Early Childhood Education prepares them for transfer into Child and Adolescent Development, Human Development and similar bachelor degree programs.

English Language Requirement

Cañada College will accept, for the purposes of meeting the English proficiency requirement, English taken in 12 year education or English is designated as the primary and official language, and the principle language of instruction. If you do not meet the English language requirements yet, you can achieve the level you need by successfully completing a pre-sessional English programme with the university or submit  

1. English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 (or equivalent) or PTE Score or Duolingo English Test score before you start your course.
