Welcome to the Associate in Arts Degree (Photography)

The Major in Art: Photography program offers a foundation in both film based photography and digital photography. Students will learn the basics of photography including composition, traditional film processing, digital imaging, and lighting. Through photography students develop a visual literacy that is useful in any field of study, developing the ability to observe, discover, and interpret the world. The program provides a solid foundation for students transferring to university baccalaureate photography programs and fine art schools. Utilize the photographic medium as a means of self-expression. Create effective photographic compositions using design principles. Demonstrate the ability to produce a fine print and create a professional presentation. Critically analyze and evaluate a photographic exhibit.

Career Path

Career opportunities include community artist, photography curator, portrait, wedding photography and visual communication specialist . The photography program also accommodates students whose photographic goals are not career-oriented.

English Language Requirement

College of San Mateo will accept, for the purposes of meeting the English proficiency requirement, English taken in 12 year education or English is designated as the primary and official language, and the principle language of instruction.

If you do not meet the English language requirements yet, you can achieve the level you need by successfully completing a pre-sessional English programme with the university or submit  

1. English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 (or equivalent) or PTE Score or Duolingo English Test score before you start your course.
