The Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering, Transfer Program (2+2) allows students to begin their studies at Cape Breton University (CBU) and complete their degree at Dalhousie University. In this pathway, students spend their first two years at CBU, where they build a strong foundation in mathematics, physics, chemistry, and introductory engineering courses while benefiting from small class sizes, personalized instruction, and hands on laboratory experiences. After completing the initial two years, students transfer to Dalhousie University to finish the final two years of the program, gaining access to advanced facilities, specialized mechanical engineering courses, and industry focused research opportunities. This collaborative program ensures graduates develop both technical expertise and practical skills required to excel in mechanical engineering, combining CBU’s supportive learning environment with Dalhousie’s world class engineering education. Students are prepared for careers in manufacturing, energy systems, robotics, aerospace, automotive engineering, materials science, and industrial design, emerging with the ability to contribute to innovation and sustainability.
Career Path
Graduate careers include Mechanical Engineer, Design Engineer (mechanical systems, CAD/CAM), Manufacturing Engineer, Thermal Systems Engineer, Robotics and Automation Engineer, Materials Engineer (metals, composites, polymers), HVAC Engineer (heating, ventilation, air conditioning), Automotive Engineer, Aerospace Engineer, Energy Systems Engineer (renewable and conventional), Marine and Offshore Engineer, Biomedical/Medical Device Engineer, Industrial Maintenance Engineer, Product Development Engineer, Project Manager (mechanical and industrial projects), Operations Manager (manufacturing or energy sectors), Engineering Consultant, Technical Sales Engineer (mechanical products and systems).
