When you pursue your Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling (MSMHC) at the university, you’ll gain core counseling, case conceptualization, diagnostic, and treatment planning skills. Plus, you’ll train in a variety of therapeutic approaches and techniques so you can meet your clients’ diverse needs. You'll train to function in a variety of community mental health settings (e.g., clinics, hospitals, prisons, college counseling centers, day treatment programs, rehabilitation facilities, outreach programs, after care centers, etc.). As you systematically complete the curriculum, you'll develop a competency base from which to perform effectively in your area of specialization.
Effective clinical mental health counselors are strong communicators, active listeners and empathetic, compassionate people who can make genuine connections with their clients. In this master’s in clinical mental health counseling degree program, you will explore the client-counselor relationship and learn to establish appropriate boundaries.You will have the opportunity to learn how to evaluate and apply evidence-based research to your practice.
