Graduate programs leading to M.Eng., M.S. degrees are available in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering and Transportation Engineering. The selection of a graduate program and degree is based on student interest, the area of graduate concentration, and the satisfaction of prerequisites. This 30-credit structured program of advanced study is aimed at preparing students for professional practice. Candidates for this degree in the Civil Engineering or Transportation Engineering discipline must have an accredited B.S. degree in engineering; in Environmental Engineering, a B.S. in the physical or natural sciences is also acceptable. This 30-credit research-oriented degree is open to students with undergraduate degrees in engineering or the physical or natural sciences. In addition to the satisfactory completion of an approved set of advanced courses, candidates for this degree must complete a six-credit thesis. Research areas include Computational Mechanics (Civil Engineering), Earthquake Engineering (Civil Engineering), Geotechnical Engineering (Civil Engineering), Site Remediation and Bioremediation (Environmental Engineering), Structural Engineering (Civil Engineering), Pollutant Fate and Transport (Environmental Engineering), Transportation Engineering (Civil Engin), Water Treatment (Environmental Engineering).

English Language Requirement

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute will accept, for the purposes of meeting the English proficiency requirement, English taken in 12-year education, or English is designated as the primary and official language and the principle language of instruction. If you do not meet the English language requirements yet, you can achieve the level you need by successfully completing a pre-sessional English programme with the university or submit 

1. English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 (or equivalent) or PTE Score or Duolingo English Test score before you start your course.
