Welcome to the Bachelor of Music Education (Vocal)

Bachelor of Music Education vocal combines professional training with experienced music educators, real-world teaching experience in local schools, and virtually countless opportunities to perform, in venues big and small, on campus and throughout Kansas' center of arts and culture. A vocal performance music education degree will prepare you for a career teaching and state certification for K-12 general and vocal music education. And, with an emphasis in general education, liberal arts, experiential learning, and leadership, we know you’ll be ready. What You’ll Do As a vocal music education major at Southeast, you will study the pedagogy, techniques, literature of applied voice, as well as music theory and music history. Attend classes on Southeast’s River Campus, a campus solely dedicated to the arts. Gain hands-on experience working in K-12 classrooms during your program. Be prepared for your career as Southeast’s program has one of the highest required field hour experiences in the state. Interact with nationally recognized performing artists and educators. The curriculum is divided into general education, music performance, music theory and history, and music education—including applied learning in K-12 classrooms equipping you with the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to start your successful teaching career.

Career Path

Teacher candidates are strongly positioned to enter the workforce as both their skill set and character are in high demand in the classroom. Music education graduates typically go on to work in both public and private schools. Many graduates have earned Teacher of the Year awards with individual schools and school districts across the state.

English Language Requirement

Southeast Missouri State University will accept, for the purposes of meeting the English proficiency requirement, English taken in 12 year education or English is designated as the primary and official language, and the principle language of instruction.

If you do not meet the English language requirements yet, you can achieve the level you need by successfully completing a pre-sessional English programme with the university or submit  

1. English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 (or equivalent) or PTE Score or Duolingo English Test score before you start your course.
