Grade 4

Grade 4 marks a significant milestone in a child's academic and personal growth, typically catering to students. This year builds on the foundational skills from earlier grades and introduces more complex concepts and opportunities for independent learning. It emphasizes critical thinking, problem-solving, and a deeper understanding of academic subjects. Grade 4 is a year of growing independence, where students transition from guided learning to a more self-directed approach. It prepares them for the increasingly complex demands of higher grades while continuing to nurture their curiosity, creativity, and enthusiasm for learning. Students analyze texts in greater detail, identifying themes, main ideas, and supporting details in fiction and non-fiction. Emphasis on writing multi-paragraph essays, creative stories, and research-based assignments. Expanding word usage, grammar rules, and comprehension through advanced exercises. Strengthening multi-digit operations and problem-solving. Developing a deeper understanding and application of these concepts. Exploring angles, symmetry, and properties of complex shapes. Using charts, graphs, and tables to analyze information. Studying the Earth's layers, weather systems, and basic astronomy.

English Language Requirement

York Catholic District School Board will accept, for the purposes of meeting the English proficiency requirement or English is designated as the primary and official language and the principle language of instruction. If you do not meet the English language requirements yet, you can achieve the level you need by successfully completing a pre-sessional English programme with the school.
