The comprehensive chemistry option will prepare you for a rigorous career in organic, analytical, physical, inorganic, biological, computational, and polymer chemistry. Interact closely with experienced faculty who are recognized for their writing, training, professional affiliations, and expertise. Study in the state-of-the-art, first-rate learning environment provided by the newly renovated Magill Hall of Science. Pursue research and scholarship that help develop independent thinking and problem solving. Gain employment opportunities within the department that can provide chemistry-related work experience prior to graduation.  The Comprehensive Chemistry Option offers three tracks: American Chemical Society Certified, Computational Chemistry, and Foundational Chemistry. Certification by the American Chemical Society in your program sends a signal to future employers and graduate schools that you have completed a rigorous program.  Our chemistry degree explores all branches of the discipline, including inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry and analytical chemistry.

Chemistry is a central science, and a qualification in this subject will offer a wide variety of career opportunities in research and development, teaching, the chemical and pharmaceutical industries (production development, analytical science, quality assurance and information science), forensic science, environmental pollution, and health and safety.

English Language Requirement

Southeast Missouri State University will accept, for the purposes of meeting the English proficiency requirement, English taken in 12 year education or English is designated as the primary and official language, and the principle language of instruction.

If you do not meet the English language requirements yet, you can achieve the level you need by successfully completing a pre-sessional English programme with the university or submit  

  • English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 (or equivalent) or PTE Score or Duolingo English Test score before you start your course.
