The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Akron offers master of science in six disciplines: computational mechanics, environmental engineering, hydraulic engineering, geotechnical engineering, structural engineering, and transportation engineering. All programs enable students to work closely with experienced, knowledgeable faculty members and require rigorous research. The graduate civil engineering program at The University of Akron provides students with opportunities to gain advanced knowledge, skills and training, to design, build, and maintain the foundation for our modern society. This includes our buildings, roads and bridges, drinking or waste water and energy systems, seaports, airports. Master of Science (M.S.) in Civil Engineering gives students the opportunity to enhance their technical skills in civil engineering and creates possibilities for future career advancement. For engineers currently working in the field, they are able to apply what they learn in class to their work immediately. Our program; Is flexible, with options for evening classes, accommodates varied educational backgrounds, provides options for research-based and coursework-based degrees, and Offers specializations: Environmental, Geotechnical, Water Resources and Hydraulic, Structural, or Transportation. Students gain Access to the university latest equipment and software that is used in companies and academia, and Graduate level classes are small enough to ensure personal attention by the professors while large enough to facilitate group projects and interactions. This multidisciplinary program provides both thesis and non-thesis options.

English Language Requirement

The University of Akron will accept, for the purposes of meeting the English proficiency requirement, English taken in 12-year education, or English is designated as the primary and official language and the principle language of instruction. If you do not meet the English language requirements yet, you can achieve the level you need by successfully completing a pre-sessional English programme with the university or submit
