Welcome to the Associate of Science Degree (Dental Assisting)

CSM's Dental Assisting program is a two semester program, accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. The program provides a comprehensive education in clinical dental assisting as preparation to sit for both the State (Registered Dental Assistant) and National (Certified Dental Assisting) examinations. Clinical experience is arranged at the University of California San Francisco Schools of Dentistry, and in various dental offices in local area. The Associate in Science Degree in Dental Assisting program is designed to prepare students to be competent dental professionals who assist the dentist chairside during the various procedures performed in the dental environment. The program provides the knowledge and skills necessary to perform supportive assisting procedures, supportive care to patients, laboratory procedures and basic office management procedures. Dental assistants are crucial members of a healthcare team, supporting many essential aspects in the area of oral care. Career Path

Dental Assistants offer carve amalgam restorations; do selective coronal polishing; place sealants, fluoride, periodontal dressings, temporary crowns, dental dams, cavity liners and bases, orthodontic elastics and ligatures and arch wires; take impressions and radiographs; remove sutures; provide patient education; and perform business office, laboratory and infection control duties.

English Language Requirement

College of San Mateo will accept, for the purposes of meeting the English proficiency requirement, English taken in 12 year education or English is designated as the primary and official language, and the principle language of instruction.

If you do not meet the English language requirements yet, you can achieve the level you need by successfully completing a pre-sessional English programme with the university or submit  

1. English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 (or equivalent) or PTE Score or Duolingo English Test score before you start your course.
