Welcome to the Associate in Arts Degree (English) - Transfer

The Associate Degree for Transfer (AA-T) in English is designed: to introduce students to literature from a wide breadth of genres, eras, and cultures; to introduce students to the fundamentals of literary criticism and research; and to reinforce students' skills in writing and analytical thinking. The AA-T in English prepares students for a wide range of career pathways since the program emphasizes close reading, effective communication, and critical thinking. Write clear and coherent compositions. Create evidence-based arguments. Evaluate expository and literary texts. Support original interpretation of literary texts. Analyze forms of literary texts. Use cultural contexts to comprehend texts. Analyze and respond critically to literary and expository texts. Demonstrate knowledge of a variety of authors, literary genres, and literary devices.

English Language Requirement

College of San Mateo will accept, for the purposes of meeting the English proficiency requirement, English taken in 12 year education or English is designated as the primary and official language, and the principle language of instruction.

If you do not meet the English language requirements yet, you can achieve the level you need by successfully completing a pre-sessional English programme with the university or submit  

1. English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 (or equivalent) or PTE Score or Duolingo English Test score before you start your course.
