Lane Community
College Health Educators act as "agents of change" to facilitate the
growth of individual and community awareness, knowledge, actions, and systems
that promote human health and well-being. This process involves learning the
skills of how to educate, assess, research, plan, advocate, develop, and
implement activities and programs designed for long term improvement of health
outcomes. Lane’s Public Health Education and
Promotion transfer interest area is interdisciplinary and integrates social and
biological sciences which ensure health outcomes are seen through the lens of
complex interacting systems. To understand the dynamic interacting dimensions
of human well-being, we must study and understand how the physical, social,
intellectual, emotional, environmental, and occupational aspects of our lives
work together to create our current state of health. What you'll learn;
Health behavior science, Critical thinking and analysis, Health literacy, Self
and Community Awareness, Health equity; Social and Individual determinants, Effective
and culturally appropriate communication, Health assessment and planning, and Scientific
methods and research evaluation. By earning your associate degree, you’ll be
prepared to transfer with Junior standing to any Oregon public college, giving
you a smart start to your career. The courses you'll take in science, math,
writing, social sciences, and cultural literacy will provide you with the
foundation you need to meet the general education requirements at most
four-year institutions, while still being able to focus on your passion for
health education.
