This major also provides a foundation for the pursuit of advanced degrees in law or other graduate programs. Students cultivate a broad understanding of basic principles of law and the role and function of the legal system. Research and analyze the relationships among case facts, statutory law, case law, and constitutional principles involved in specific legal controversies. Evaluate, in reference to both the historically contingent legal culture and the more transcendent principles of natural law, the arguments offered by competing sides in legal controversies.
Gain insights into the foundations of law, exploring core topics such as procedure law, business law, legal skills and law in context. Build a solid foundation in critical thinking, communication and legal research — skills in high demand by a wide range of employers. Develop the knowledge and practical skills to succeed in a variety of legal careers in research, operations, policy and advocacy. Hone your skills in communicating in a clear and strategic way, and apply your judgment and knowledge of the ethical responsibilities associated with a legal studies degree.

It provides graduates with legal knowledge to equip them to be paralegals working for legal practitioners,not just legal practices or law firms, and to pursue a range of careers in areas such as:  banking and finance, communications and public relations, corporate governance, court administration, information technology, journalism and publishing, justice departments.
