Welcome to the Bachelor of Music (Vocal Performance)

As a vocal performance major at Southeast, you’ll work in applied music study, music theory and analysis, music history, and gain experience through performance ensembles. Interact with nationally recognized performing artists and educators. Attend classes on Southeast’s River Campus, a campus solely dedicated to the arts. Gain performance experience through ensembles.  The Bachelor of Arts in Music with an Emphasis in Voice Performance degree program provides rigorous training in vocal performance. You will receive the personalized attention necessary to improve your range and strengthen your vocal skills, enabling you to take command of the stage. Share your vocal talents with those around you while you prepare for a meaningful career pursuing your passion. There is an emphasis on vocal technique, vocal health, literature and performance techniques. The rigorous curriculum blends music theory with its practical application on stage. You will benefit from multiple performance opportunities that enable you to showcase your talents and demonstrate your progress. Vocal performance majors develop a strong foundation in solo and collaborative performance, along with vocal techniques, literature and pedagogy.

Career Path

Upon graduation, majors in vocal performance emphasis may choose to pursue careers as musicians, singers and secondary education school teachers who help others find their love for music. There is a diverse range of work settings that may hire vocal performers.

English Language Requirement

Southeast Missouri State University will accept, for the purposes of meeting the English proficiency requirement, English taken in 12 year education or English is designated as the primary and official language, and the principle language of instruction.

If you do not meet the English language requirements yet, you can achieve the level you need by successfully completing a pre-sessional English programme with the university or submit  

1. English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 (or equivalent) or PTE Score or Duolingo English Test score before you start your course.
