About

Students who earn a B.A. in Studio Art gain a comprehensive knowledge of the visual arts. The program provides a broad knowledge of studio practice in different disciplines, a fundamental understanding of Western cultural history, and a solid foundation in the liberal arts and humanities. The Bachelor of Arts Studio is an interdisciplinary, liberal arts degree, in which students are permitted to self-design the required suite of 42 studio electives around their interests in varying media within the School of Art. BA Studio Art Majors must complete a Minor Area Course of Study, two years of a foreign language, or five courses in American Sign Language. ll UA students enjoy membership privileges at the Akron Art Museum, which boasts a permanent collection of American and European art since 1850, a dynamic schedule of temporary exhibits, and a specialized art history library. Art Studio students also have opportunities to curate shows in the Emily Davis Gallery, Projects Gallery and other exhibition spaces in Folk Hall. Experience art objects in person, every day in the Emily Davis Gallery, the Akron Art Museum, or the numerous museums and galleries in Northeast Ohio. Participate in lectures and museum trips sponsored by AHA, the Art History Association, UA’s official student art history club.
