Welcome to the Diploma –Ship Machinery

The major aim of the is to educate students and equip them with all sort of necessary knowledge, skills and insight in order to effectively take part in the marine sector and carry out duties related to Marine Engineering within the marine sector.
Students will learn the following; Technical Drawing, Material Science, Introduction to marine electronics, Physics for Mariners I, Introduction to Marine Engineering, Calculus I, Ship Construction, Maritime Safety I, Introduction to Computer, Diesel Engines I, Maritime English I, Physics for Mariners II, Calculus II, Physical Education I, MARITIME SAFETY II, Swimming, Thermodynamics I, Operation and Maintenance of Main and Auxiliary Machinery I, Marine Auxiliary Machinery I, Marine Boilers & Operation, Hydraulic Pneumatic & Automatic Control, Maritime English II, Engine Room Simulator, Marine Diesel Engines II, Graduation Project, Marine Auxiliary Machinery II, Operation and Maintenance of Main and Auxiliary Machinery II, Marine Electrotechnology I, Maritime Safety III

After completing the two year program of this department, students are required to have 6 month applied marine training. In order to graduate from this program, students need to attend 32 hrs practical training, 92 hrs theoretical training, all together reaching 124 hrs, 111credits out of 37 courses and achieve at least an average of 2 out of 4 from these courses. Following this, students gain the right to take the “Third Officer/Mate” Examination held by the TR Ministry of Transport, maritime Affairs and Communications.
Career path
According to the result of this examination, graduates are recruited as “mechanist officers” in private or state maritime sector, powered by 750-3000 KW. They can gradually become marine chief mechanists or second mechanists. Besides marine sector, graduates of this department are competent enough to be recruited in jobs requiring technical skills on engineering such as in factories and other business sectors. Candidate students wishing to enroll to this department are required to have their Seafarer Medical Certificate.

English Language Requirement

University of Kyrenia will accept, for the purposes of meeting the English proficiency requirement, English taken in 12 year education or English is designated as the primary and official language, and the principle language of instruction.
If you do not meet the English language requirements yet, you can achieve the level you need by successfully completing a pre-sessional English programme with the university or submit  

  • English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 (or equivalent) or PTE Score or Duolingo English Test score before you start your course.
