Biochemistry is the best of both
worlds! It allows a student to combine knowledge of both chemistry and biology
of life processes at the molecular level. At MTSU, you'll build a strong
background in the traditional areas of chemistry that overlap with molecular
biology — organic and biochemistry, along with the more quantitative areas of
analytical, and physical chemistry. A degree in biochemistry prepares students
to think critically and creatively as effective problem solvers. Biochemistry
graduates can continue on to graduate or professional school or find immediate
employment in a wide variety of high-demand fields. These fields include health
professions (e.g. medical, dental, pharmacy), pharmaceutical or biotechnology
industry; or biomedical testing.
Career Path
A study of Biochemistry can pave
the way to a diverse range of careers in both public and private sectors, in
and out of the lab. Examples include Acquisition logistics manager, Assistant
scientist, Biochemist, Business process analyst, Environmental consultant, Intellectual
property advisor, Laboratory technician, Patent examiner, Quality assurance
manager, Research assistant.
