Welcome to the Bachelor of Arts Music

Students pursuing the Bachelor of Arts in music encounter a curriculum that exposes them to an in-depth study of music theory, music history, as well as disciplines outside of music. This degree option is unique in that it requires a minor area of study, giving students the opportunity to explore the fine arts entrepreneurship program. The Bachelor of Arts degree is fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music. As a music major at Southeast, you’ll study music history, music theory, many other disciplines outside of music, and gain performance experience through some of our many ensembles. Interact with nationally recognized performing artists and educators. Attend classes on Southeast’s River Campus, a campus solely dedicated to the arts. Gain performance experience through ensembles. There is also the possibility to take a work placement in a music-related field during the third year of the degree, for which students will receive training in transferable professional skills. This is an ideal course for anyone interested in pursuing a career in music, including teaching music in secondary schools and many other fields. During the course of your studies you'll also gain creative thinking skills, research and analytical capabilities, written and verbal communication skills, as well as practical and theoretical musical training.

Career Path

BA in Music graduates work in education, business and arts industries. Examples of job titles include teacher, performer, songwriter, music publisher and concert promoter. As a BA Music graduate, you'll be prepared for career opportunities in areas such as arts administration, elementary music education, media studies, digital arts, and the non-profit sector.

English Language Requirement

Southeast Missouri State University will accept, for the purposes of meeting the English proficiency requirement, English taken in 12 year education or English is designated as the primary and official language, and the principle language of instruction.

If you do not meet the English language requirements yet, you can achieve the level you need by successfully completing a pre-sessional English programme with the university or submit  

1. English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 (or equivalent) or PTE Score or Duolingo English Test score before you start your course.
