The Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy students acquire knowledge and skills that can apply to a wide range of fields. Among these are critical thinking and analytical reasoning skills, decision-making skills, the ability to communicate effectively and to make ethical judgements, and the ability to apply knowledge and skills to real-world settings. Philosophy places the greatest value on demonstrated proficiency that cuts across all majors. As a result philosophy graduates achieve long-term career success.  Philosophy graduates often continue their education in graduate, law, or med programs, or obtain positions in wide variety of fields, such as education, publishing, marketing, consulting, government, environmental management, public administration law and law enforcement, human resources, insurance, libraries, foreign services, and religious or social service. Study major philosophical texts past and present. Discover Aristotle and the classics, questions of data privacy, the mind, the nature and limits of art and beyond. Take interdisciplinary electives with project-based learning experiences that address real-world challenges. This Philosophy BA will give you a deep knowledge of all areas of philosophy, help you develop your own philosophical ideas, and equip you with the skills to develop, analyse and communicate arguments. Build skills that are transferable and desirable, leading to a wide range of careers, such as law, journalism, teaching, financial services, communication and more. You might prefer to specialise in the philosophy of mind, with modules on metaphysics and the philosophy of psychology, or delve deeper into the world of ethics and pick up modules on applied ethics and politics or topics in ethics.

English Language Requirement

The University of Akron will accept, for the purposes of meeting the English proficiency requirement, English taken in 12-year education, or English is designated as the primary and official language and the principle language of instruction. If you do not meet the English language requirements yet, you can achieve the level you need by successfully completing a pre-sessional English programme with the university or submit 

1. English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 (or equivalent) or PTE Score or Duolingo English Test score before you start your course.
