Social Science fields are many
and varied, and include such areas as Cultural Anthropology, Economics, Ethnic
Studies, Geography, History, International Relations, Philosophy, Political
Science, Psychology, and Sociology. An A.A. degree prepares students for
transfer to a baccalaureate institution for further study in Social Science or
one of its encompassed fields. Analyze relevant contemporary social issues
using concepts and evidence from the social sciences. Evaluate
social/behavioral research with regard to research methods, evidence and
scientific reasoning. Describe how the social context can affect individual
behavior and perspectives. Students spend significant time studying human
behavior and the social environment in addition to expanding their world view
with courses in psychology, sociology, human development, world religions, and
human diversity
Career Path
Career opportunities for social
scientists are found with federal, state and local government agencies.
Additional opportunities exist with colleges and universities in research and
teaching. Some social scientists are self-employed in research or special
studies for business, industry or government.
