Students will be able to critically engage with the world of ideas, both historical and contemporary, enabling them to interpret and understand their place in the world as citizens and active participants in the expression of human culture and values. Interest in studying philosophy begins with the desire to engage life’s greatest questions: finding the meaning of human existence, making sense of reality and our place in the cosmos, giving systematic form to our ethical and political intuitions, explaining the history of human ideas, and other equally significant problems.
You’ll also study ethics and learn about the connection between religion and philosophy, all while honing your critical-thinking skills. Courses also explore the influence of science on society, the problems with philosophy, and logical reasoning.
The study of philosophy is excellent preparation for careers in law, journalism, politics, and university teaching. Study in philosophy does not focus on what to think, but on how to think. Such a skill is applicable in any context.
