The
Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education (Mathematics Option) is a rigorous
and rewarding degree designed for individuals who are passionate about
mathematics and committed to inspiring the next generation of analytical
thinkers. This program prepares future educators to teach math at the middle
and high school levels by combining deep mathematical content knowledge with
evidence-based teaching practices. Students explore a wide range of
mathematical disciplines including algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and
discrete math while also learning how to design engaging, standards-aligned
lessons that promote problem-solving, logical reasoning, and mathematical
communication. The program emphasizes the integration of technology,
differentiated instruction, and culturally responsive pedagogy to meet the
diverse needs of adolescent learners. Through field experiences and student
teaching placements, students gain hands-on experience in real classrooms,
developing classroom management skills and instructional strategies that foster
a positive learning environment.
