The
engineering transfer interest area at Lane can help prepare you to transfer to
a four year institution to work toward a career in engineering. Once enrolled,
you’ll work with your advisor to build a degree plan specific to your goals.
Focusing on engineering will give you a solid
background in mathematics and the physical sciences, while still exposing you
to social sciences and liberal arts. You'll start by exploring the various
engineering disciplines to get a better idea of what field you want to enter,
debating ethical challenges, and using various engineering and mathematical
tools. After many classes both designing with computers and building with your
hands, you'll make your own invention as a capstone project. With 40 years of
proven success in preparing engineering students for upper division classes in
several engineering disciplines at universities throughout the country, our
program will get you set on the path to a wide variety of well-paying,
interesting employment opportunities throughout the world. Engineers typically
have great job security and employment rates are much higher than other fields.
Some jobs emphasize outdoor field work, such as construction site activity,
ocean floor, or aerospace exploration and research. Other jobs might focus on design of ordinary
objects for daily use or on medical technology. Many positions utilize
computers for analysis and problem solving. Often, engineers move into
responsible management positions or consulting work after several years.
