Welcome to the Associate of Arts Degree (Art History)

The Associate of Arts in Art History is designed for students who wish to pursue the study of art forms of the past and present in a social, political, philosophical and cultural context as a foundation for understanding human history and creativity. Apply critical thinking in the creative process. Use the language of the discipline; demonstrate to command of critical vocabulary. Describe the roles of creative expression in human cultures. Engage with the arts; integrate the arts into life. Use critical thinking in evaluating works of art in intrinsic terms, expressive content, and social context.  Students leave the program with an increased sensitivity to art-related issues and the ability to think critically about art and art history. Knowledge of art history engenders a heightened understanding of history, a familiarity with the major issues in human cultural development and the exposure to the artistic expression of varied cultures and civilizations.

Career opportunities include the following: college professor, teacher, arts administrator, museum/gallery curator, corporate art advisor, museum docent, consultant on historical style for film and TV production, museum conservator, historical conservationist, art critic, tour guide, travel consultant, research assistant, and art dealer.

English Language Requirement

Cañada College will accept, for the purposes of meeting the English proficiency requirement, English taken in 12 year education or English is designated as the primary and official language, and the principle language of instruction.

If you do not meet the English language requirements yet, you can achieve the level you need by successfully completing a pre-sessional English programme with the university or submit  

1. English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 (or equivalent) or PTE Score or Duolingo English Test score before you start your course.
