The Bachelor of Science degree program in Food and Nutrition Sciences (FNS) is designed to meet the needs of the food industry. FNS graduates are qualified to work in a diverse range of career opportunities in the food industry immediately after graduation. FNS prepares and equips students for the food industry’s fast pace and cross-functioning team approach. With a strong food, science, and nutrition-based curriculum combined with business and management courses, graduates can address and contribute in achieving innovative solutions to the continuously evolving challenges of the food industry. The rigorous academic program includes the study of: Food science, Microbiology, Buyer behavior, Cultural dimensions of food, General, organic, and biochemistry Food safety standards and regulation, Management principles. Communication and presentation to diverse audiences. The food industry, history, and current trends Internships are available to enhance the student experience at The University of Akron. Current partnerships exist with local food industry to provide the experience needed to help students thrive in their career. Every aspect of FNS – its mission, courses, core competencies, and internships – was developed in partnership with experts in the food industry. National food companies, local food producers, and professional food industry organizations continue to provide support and input. Students obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Food and Nutrition Sciences will be prepared for careers in the food industry, specializing in areas such as food marketing, quality control, regulatory affairs, entrepreneurship, and product development. This major equips graduates with the knowledge and skills needed to address the challenges in the food sector.

English Language Requirement

The University of Akron will accept, for the purposes of meeting the English proficiency requirement, English taken in 12-year education, or English is designated as the primary and official language and the principle language of instruction. If you do not meet the English language requirements yet, you can achieve the level you need by successfully completing a pre-sessional English programme with the university or submit 

1. English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 (or equivalent) or PTE Score or Duolingo English Test score before you start your course.
