Welcome to the BSc. Biology - Microbiology, Cellular and Molecular Biology, and Biotechnology

A microbiology, cellular and molecular biology, and biotechnology option is for the student who is preparing to do graduate work in any area of the laboratory life sciences. There is high demand for graduates with laboratory research training in the public and private sectors. Required and supporting courses provide the background that is essential for admission into life sciences graduate programs or for employment in biotechnology. The curriculum includes rigorous coursework in general microbiology, laboratory methods in biotechnology, and molecular genetics. Core courses will prepare you for any area of biology. Select courses in virology, immunology, investigative molecular biology, epidemiology, physiology, bioinformatics, health physics, and toxicology. Gain competitive graduate school advantage with coursework in chemistry, biochemistry, and mathematics. Engage with faculty advisors who are both active in research programs and readily involve students in their research programs.

English Language Requirement

Southeast Missouri State University will accept, for the purposes of meeting the English proficiency requirement, English taken in 12 year education or English is designated as the primary and official language, and the principle language of instruction.

If you do not meet the English language requirements yet, you can achieve the level you need by successfully completing a pre-sessional English programme with the university or submit  

  • English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 (or equivalent) or PTE Score or Duolingo English Test score before you start your course.
