The Master of Taxation  Program provides intensive academic training for experienced accountant/attorneys and for individuals looking to enter the tax field. Since 1979, The University of Akron MTax program has provided in-depth knowledge of tax law which can be immediately applied in practice. By providing knowledge and advanced research training, our program helps set you apart from the competition and prepares you for the next level in your career. Tax planning and projects are a major focus for large and small businesses, driving high demand for expertise in this area. The MTax program provides analysis for both sides of transactions and thus our graduates have a significantly higher than average employment marketability. The Master of Taxation (MTax) program is an approved Federal STEM degree program designed to provide intensive training for individuals with an interest in developing specialized skills in the area of taxation.  However, other individuals with a four-year degree in business or accounting from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning (or international equivalent) may also find the program valuable. The program offers substantive technical and professional knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to function as a taxation specialist in the United States. Students in the program will:  develop substantive and comprehensive knowledge of federal taxation; understand the state and local taxation regimes of selected states, including the State of Ohio; develop abilities to research taxation issues, identify and solve taxation problems, and plan taxation strategies; develop the ability to contribute as a taxation specialist to strategic planning and decision-making in organizations;

English Language Requirement

The University of Akron will accept, for the purposes of meeting the English proficiency requirement, English taken in 12-year education, or English is designated as the primary and official language and the principle language of instruction. If you do not meet the English language requirements yet, you can achieve the level you need by successfully completing a pre-sessional English programme with the university or submit 

1. English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 (or equivalent) or PTE Score or Duolingo English Test score before you start your course.
