The Bachelor of Science in
Education – Mathematics (9 – 12) prepares our majors for a career in education
with a Missouri mathematics (9 – 12) teaching certificate when they
successfully complete our program. This program offers a solid foundation in
calculus, algebra, geometry, and statistics.Math is a subject that students can
try and fail and try again until they discover the solution. That type of
growth mindset is important for more than just their future ability to
understand math. The Bachelor of Science in Education – Mathematics prepares
you for a career in education with a Missouri mathematics teaching certificate.
What You’ll Do As a mathematics education major, you’ll focus on meaningful
applications of math as a strong part of our program. You’ll also have the
opportunity to: Work closely with highly qualified, award-winning mathematics
education faculty in a technology rich environment. Prepare for professional
examinations for entrance to and exit from the College of Education. Attend
conferences as participants or presenters. Develop the professional skills
needed to become a successful teacher and/or advanced study in graduate and
professional programs. Gain valuable classroom experience through student
teaching. You will develop a broad understanding of mathematics and statistics.
In your second and final year, studying dedicated mathematics education modules
alongside mathematics and statistics modules will enable you to graduate with
the BSc Mathematics Education degree.
