Public Relations is all about building and maintaining beneficial relationships between organizations and their stakeholders and customers. The organization’s message is the foundation of building those relationships. As a PR representative, students will create and shape those messages between an organization and its public.Our PR degree path provides students with real-world experiences through service-learning; exposure to people, organizations and scenarios that foster creativity; and helps develop the critical thinking skills students will use throughout their career in the industry. Our continued investment into the most advanced technology available will give you the ability to create content that is on par with the industry standard. The curriculum covers both applied and theoretical approaches to all aspects of the field, including media law and ethics, video and audio content creation, editing, producing, and writing for various platforms. Our production equipment is current and cutting edge. The School of Communication offers an array of hands-on learning experiences:  media production labs, desktop publishing facilities, social media lab, Z-TV student-run television station, television production studio, post-production suites and multimedia classrooms, WZIP-FM, student-run radio station serving Northeast Ohio. The University of Akron's media studies program provides students with hands-on experience to prepare them for a variety of careers within media industries.

English Language Requirement

The University of Akron will accept, for the purposes of meeting the English proficiency requirement, English taken in 12-year education, or English is designated as the primary and official language and the principle language of instruction. If you do not meet the English language requirements yet, you can achieve the level you need by successfully completing a pre-sessional English programme with the university or submit 

1. English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 (or equivalent) or PTE Score or Duolingo English Test score before you start your course.
