Associate Degree Philosophy (Transfer 2+2) is intended for students who plan to complete a bachelor's degree in a similar major at a California State University after their progra and admission is guaranteed. The program major is the historical study of the creation and reception of visual art within its cultural contexts. This study emphasizes critical analysis and visual literacy. The major focuses on art from the origins of civilization to the present.
Students will Demonstrate knowledge and application and/or analysis of formal principles and elements of art. Demonstrate critical thinking as it applies to critique, evaluation and/or production of works of art.. Demonstrate knowledge of various artistic movements and significant artists.
This program stresses critical analysis of art, knowledge and awareness of a variety of artistic traditions, visual literacy, and oral and written communications skills. Students also graduate with hands-on experience planning and executing an art exhibition in the Introduction to Gallery Practices course.
Career Path
Employment opportunities include, but are not limited to, art handler, art critic, gallery attendant, art fair professional, in addition to work in museums, non-profits, marketing companies, advertising agencies, and education.
