Welcome to the Associate in Science Degree (Architecture)

This degree prepares students for entry-level employment and/or potential further study in the field of Architecture through the study of design, visual communication, architecture history, and construction technology. Students will acquire skills, knowledge, and abilities related to predesign, conceptual design, schematic design, design development, tactile (by hand) model-making, digital (computer) model-making, building information modeling (BIM), tactile (by hand) graphics/drawing, digital (computer) graphics/drawing, architecture history, computer assisted drafting & design (CAD), construction materials & methods, construction documents, and detailing. Use basic architectural principles in elementary two & three dimensional design problem-solving. Use graphics, including freehand drawing and computer applications, and physical models to communicate three dimensional design concepts and alternatives throughout a basic project design process. Describe architectural precedents and traditions, in particular the influences of the 20th/21st century, as well as elementary climatic, technological, socioeconomic, and other cultural factors that impact the built environment and the practice of environmental design Successfully carry out both individual and collaborative work as a part of a design team.

Career Path

Some may elect to do advance work in fields such as art, historic restoration, product development, government, politics, business administration, law, education, medicine, research, land development, the military, etc. Others find opportunities in related fields that utilize the technical and problem-solving skills obtained from their architectural education.

English Language Requirement

College of San Mateo will accept, for the purposes of meeting the English proficiency requirement, English taken in 12 year education or English is designated as the primary and official language, and the principle language of instruction.

If you do not meet the English language requirements yet, you can achieve the level you need by successfully completing a pre-sessional English programme with the university or submit
