Welcome to the Bachelor of Science Political Science

A political science degree focuses on government and international relations, public administration, and political theory. Our students regularly intern with local, state, and federal elected officials and find successful careers in government, campaigns, academic research and teaching, and international affairs. What You'll Do As a political science major at Southeast, you’ll be challenged to think about national and international politics. Engage with exceptionally well qualified faculty members who work closely with students in small settings. Thrive in specialized student organizations like the Political Science and Political Theory Clubs and the student honorary society Pi Sigma Alpha Gain hands-on real-world experience in a practicum, professional conference, or internship. Participate in Model United Nations Prepare for graduate or other advanced study of to take the LSATs. The political science degree curriculum provides knowledge and skills that have immediate practical application, are transferable from one field to another, and are in high demand across a wide variety of careers and professions. A bachelor’s in political science focuses on how governments and citizens interact with each other, including how policies impact individuals and communities. This degree covers public policy, constitutional law, foreign policy, state and local governments, political theory and campaign politics. A bachelor’s in political science prepares you for a career in politics, government, the nonprofit sector or business, among other fields.

Career Path

Political Science graduates work in political, financial, sales, marketing, and communication fields. Examples of job titles include public policy analyst, public administrator, lawyer, lobbyist, campaign manager, human resource specialist, politician, immigration officer, researcher and legislative assistant.

English Language Requirement

Southeast Missouri State University will accept, for the purposes of meeting the English proficiency requirement, English taken in 12 year education or English is designated as the primary and official language, and the principle language of instruction.

If you do not meet the English language requirements yet, you can achieve the level you need by successfully completing a pre-sessional English programme with the university or submit  

1. English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 (or equivalent) or PTE Score or Duolingo English Test score before you start your course.
