Welcome to the BSc. Journalism - Environmental Journalism and Communication

Environmental journalists and related professionals will use their knowledge to cover the always-topical, data-driven subjects of environmental research, preservation, and law. Students will learn how to critically examine and effectively convey complex information, keeping in mind relevant scientific and cultural context. This is a growing area for journalists and media researchers, whose work can touch on a variety of diverse issues covered in an equally diverse number of media outlets. MTSU's accredited program emphasizes writing/reporting skills, theory, history, law, ethics, design, management, research, new media, and freedom of expression. Faculty have a wide range of academic and professional backgrounds, and the School of Journalism and Strategic Media offers on-campus practicum and off-campus internship opportunities, including the Seigenthaler News Service-MTSU in Nashville. 

Career Path

Graduates with a concentration in environmental journalism and communication will be ready for a variety of careers depending on their particular areas of interests. Examples include: Academic researcher, Climate conservation coordinator, Climate and environmental advocacy fellow, Digital content creator, Environmental media consultant, Environmental reporter, Public policy associate. Sustainability specialist.

English Language Requirement

Middle Tennessee State University will accept, for the purposes of meeting the English proficiency requirement, English taken in 12 year education or English is designated as the primary and official language, and the principle language of instruction. If you do not meet the English language requirements yet, you can achieve the level you need by successfully completing a pre-sessional English programme with the university or submit  

1. English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 (or equivalent) or PTE Score or Duolingo English Test score before you start your course.
