The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)
in Human Performance's concentration in Leisure and Sport Management prepares
doctoral students to plan and conduct research, design and delivery educational
experiences, and to serve their profession as well as the larger society. The
doctorate is a research-oriented degree that prepares students to pursue
faculty positions in higher education or to provide research and educational
services to private industry, public, and non-profit organizations. Under the
guidance of expert faculty members, doctoral students in Leisure and Sport
Management may explore topics related to leisure, sport, outdoor recreation,
tourism, hospitality, and event planning and management. During the program of
study, doctoral students complete coursework, take preliminary examinations,
and compose a dissertation in a chosen area of specialization.
Career Path
The Human Performance, Leisure
and Sport Management Concentration, Ph.D. is offered for the purpose of
developing doctoral level expertise in research (both applied and theoretical)
and as preparation for teaching at the collegiate level. Some positions
currently held by alumni from the doctoral program include: University
professor, University athletics head coach, Compliance officer for federal
agency.
