The purpose of the Bachelor of
Arts in Social Science is to develop interdisciplinary professional skills and
academic preparation in the social sciences. This degree allows students the
flexibility to choose one major concentration area and one secondary
concentration area from each of the following disciplines: anthropology,
criminal justice, economics, history, political science, psychology and
sociology. It is well suited for students interested in professional
opportunities in research, analysis, human resources and other social science
fields, as well as careers in military service and law enforcement. Bachelor of
Arts in Social Science students focus on the core social science disciplines of
anthropology, history, political science, and psychology. Courses in these and
other areas broaden students' knowledge base while honing communication and
critical thinking skills. The required capstone course also provide
opportunities to develop skills, make connections, and apply newly acquired
knowledge to professional projects. The program's faculty offer a wide array of
courses encompassing broad interests. Students can take classes covering
Indians of North America, political behavior, the American West, the
environment, the Silk Roads, social psychology, among others. All classes
required to complete the BA in Social Science are online, including the
capstone class. The ability to complete this degree completely online allows
today's students the flexibility they need to be successful in their college
pursuits, as well as their work and personal lives.
