The BFA dance major is designed for the student who wishes to pursue professional training in dance through an emphasis in ballet and modern dance techniques. This program offers extensive training in technical, performing and choreographic skills and is supported by a core of coursework in dance history, pedagogy, and physical analysis. The BFA in Dance prepares students for performing, graduate studies in performance and choreography, fields related to dance such as arts administration, dance history, physical therapy, dance therapy, dance education, or dance ethnology, as well as teaching in private studios. Dancers express ideas, stories, rhythm, and sound with their bodies. They perform in a variety of settings, presenting an array of dance types. University of Akron dance program uniquely combines traditional academics with performance opportunities and technical training in ballet, pointe, modern, jazz and tap. Gain a clear understanding of: dance techniques, history of dance, pedagogical background for preparation to teach, dance composition, and kinesiology. s a dance major, you will perfect your craft and develop leadership skills through study and performance with: The University of Akron Dance Company; Faculty and guest choreographers create original work on students for main stage performances at Daum Theatre each fall and E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall every spring. The University of Akron Dance Company Touring Ensemble; Educational productions are created and performed by dance students using ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop and modern dance in Akron public schools to expose young audiences to dance as an art form.

English Language Requirement

The University of Akron will accept, for the purposes of meeting the English proficiency requirement, English taken in 12-year education, or English is designated as the primary and official language and the principle language of instruction. If you do not meet the English language requirements yet, you can achieve the level you need by successfully completing a pre-sessional English programme with the university or submit 

1. English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 (or equivalent) or PTE Score or Duolingo English Test score before you start your course.
