If you dream of working in the professional theatre, acting in front of the camera, working behind the scenes, and developing the confidence and “soft skills” that employers find so attractive, Lane’s Theatre program is for you. We offer a wide range of classes and production opportunities that will help you discover, hone, and develop your skills and prepare you for the next step. No matter what your career goals may be, studying theatre can help lay the foundation, giving you the confidence and communication skills to stand out in any room. Though our wide range of classes and production opportunities you’ll discover, hone, and develop your skills to prepare you to transfer to a four-year school. Coursers can also fulfill the “arts and letters” course requirements for many Lane degree programs. What you'll learn; Learn the art and business of contemporary theatre. Learn realistic and stylized acting methods and audition techniques. Developing your voice for stage and camera. Learn stagecraft, set design, lighting, sound, stage management and crew work. Learn scene analysis, improv, and character analysis.Learn stage makeup and costume design/construction techniques. Theatre transfer students are highly desirable at four-year schools and professional training programs. Our transfer agreements with the University of Oregon and the University of Wales Trinity Saint David as well as our alignment of Theatre classes at other colleges and universities allows you to transfer easily as a Theatre major or minor.

Career Path

Graduate career path includes Actor (Stage, Film, or Community Theatre), Stage Manager Assistant, Drama Instructor (Youth or Community Programs), Theatre Technician (Lighting, Sound, Props), Casting Assistant, Script Reader or Coverage Assistant, Costume or Wardrobe Assistant, Set Design Assistant, Box Office or Front-of-House Coordinator, Theatre Marketing Assistant, Production Assistant (Film, TV, or Theatre), Arts Administrator (Entry-Level), Playwriting Assistant or Editor, Touring Company Support Staff, Talent Agency Assistant, Theatre Education Program Facilitator, Community Arts Outreach Coordinator, Voice Acting Assistant.

English Language Requirement

Lane Community College will accept, for the purposes of meeting the English proficiency requirement, English taken in 12-year education, or English is designated as the primary and official language and the principle language of instruction. If you do not meet the English language requirements yet, you can achieve the level you need by successfully completing a pre-sessional English programme with the university or submit 

1. English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 (or equivalent) or PTE Score or Duolingo English Test score before you start your course.
