Welcome to the Bachelor of Music Education (Instrumental)

A instrumental performance music education degree will prepare you for a career teaching and state certification for K-12 general and instrumental music education. And, with an emphasis in general education, liberal arts, experiential learning, and leadership, we know you’ll be ready. What You’ll Do As an instrumental music education major at Southeast, you will study the pedagogy, techniques, literature of your applied instrument, as well as music theory and music history. Attend classes on Southeast’s River Campus, a campus solely dedicated to the arts. Gain hands-on experience working in K-12 classrooms during your program. Be prepared for your career as Southeast’s program has one of the highest required field hour experiences in the state. Interact with nationally recognized performing artists and educators. Study in a program that is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music. Music education majors complete the same musical education as performance majors during their first two years. In their junior and senior years, students focus on music education by teaching young students.

Career Path

Students with Bachelor of Music degrees in music education also often continue graduate work at respected institutions across the country, either in music education or in related fields such as music performance, arts management, and others. English Language Requirement

Southeast Missouri State University will accept, for the purposes of meeting the English proficiency requirement, English taken in 12 year education or English is designated as the primary and official language, and the principle language of instruction.

If you do not meet the English language requirements yet, you can achieve the level you need by successfully completing a pre-sessional English programme with the university or submit  

1. English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 (or equivalent) or PTE Score or Duolingo English Test score before you start your course.
