This innovative program prepares
graduate students to meet the State of Tennessee initial licensure requirements
in secondary and K-12 education while pursuing a Master’s degree. There are two
paths – traditional teacher training and job-embedded teaching. Both are
focused upon best practices in education as well as the latest developments in
learning theory and research. Built around the concepts of “high tech and high
touch,” the program provides exceptional convenience for those students who
prefer online and hybrid classes with a personal approach. The program employs
problem-based learning in combination with professional learning communities,
an approach that focuses attention on current realities inherent in the world
of teaching. Through this singular training method, graduate students learn
specific, dynamic teaching techniques to focus on student success while working
with others in a professional learning community setting. Students are trained
in practices fundamental to their success as a Secondary or K-12 teacher,
including effective planning, assessment, instructional strategies, and
classroom management. Further, graduates are prepared to engage in research
practices that are meaningful and useful to their own professional application.
Our commitment is to encourage the effective growth of our students and to
support them as they prepare to be dynamic and competent professionals.
