Welcome to the Bachelor of Arts History

A Bachelor of Arts in history the university will give you the tools to make sense of our past, gain a deeper understanding of the present, and help to shape a better course for our future. You’ll be immersed in the practice of historical studies, starting with foundational knowledge of historical eras and narrowing down to a focus area of your choice. By learning about the historical narratives that we construct as a people, you’ll see how critically interpreting those narratives can shift our perspectives of the world and our place in it. During your studies, you’ll learn all about the historical research process: combining primary and secondary sources, evaluating evidence, identifying biases, interpreting contradictory or incomplete information, and so much more. These skills—along with a heightened ability to communicate your ideas—will serve you well in any field you choose. With a bachelor’s degree in history from UNO, you’ll have everything you need to understand our past and build your own future.

Career Path

BA in History majors may choose to explore careers in publishing, such as by writing for history-related publications, textbooks and popular series. History degree graduates may also consider employment in the media industry as writers, editors, research specialists, fact-checkers or presenters on history documentaries. Additionally, it’s possible for graduates to prepare to enter law school. The knowledge and practical skills taught in a history degree program can serve graduates well as they pursue opportunities as attorneys, paralegals or judges.

English Language Requirement

Southeast Missouri State University will accept, for the purposes of meeting the English proficiency requirement, English taken in 12 year education or English is designated as the primary and official language, and the principle language of instruction.

If you do not meet the English language requirements yet, you can achieve the level you need by successfully completing a pre-sessional English programme with the university or submit  

1. English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 (or equivalent) or PTE Score or Duolingo English Test score before you start your course.
