About This Programme

The Political Science program at Cape Breton University (CBU) has earned a strong reputation for innovation, hard work, and a commitment to excellence. Firmly rooted in the liberal arts and social sciences, the program equips students with analytical tools and critical thinking skills to make constructive contributions to society. Political scientists are called upon to examine and challenge the groups, systems, and institutions that perpetuate injustice, and at CBU students engage with issues that affect real communities ranging from global challenges like climate change to local concerns such as social and economic development. Approachable faculty bring expertise in public administration, governance, community economic development, social justice, environmental policy, and democracy, offering students both academic insight and practical experience. Many professors are respected authors of books, journal articles, and research studies, while others are actively involved in local, national, and international initiatives that shape the field of political science. Their shared goal is to help students gain a deeper understanding of the subjects that matter most, paving the way for success in future careers or advanced studies.
