The Sport Coaching and Athletics Leadership program prepares you to work in:professional, collegiate, and high school sport coaching, recreational and community sports, and sport science and coaching. All Sport Coaching and Athletics Leadership students at UA complete practical experiences throughout their undergraduate studies embedded in their classes and through field experiences. Students will sit for the Level I NFHS Coaching Credential and Ohio Department of Education Pupil Activity (Coaching) Permit. Our Faculty are innovative, interactive and experienced in the field of sport and recreation are active in national organizations and local community agencies encourage students to be critical thinkers and problem solvers have experience in all levels of sports: public, private, novice, amateur and professional. The School of Exercise and Nutrition Science, located in InfoCision Stadium, offers a variety of resources for its students, including: UA’s location is uniquely situated to provide easy access to Division I athletics and many levels of sport organizations state-of-the-art facilities and equipment to better assist in knowledge based learning opportunities to aid faculty in a variety of applications and experiences. Gain Akron Real World Experience; Required practicum experience for each student, Service learning built into coursework, Collaboration with professionals in the sport and recreation industry, and Field experience embedded in the curriculum. A bachelor’s degree paves the way to a variety of career opportunities in the sport and recreation industry that involve leadership, scouting, coaching and programming. Students may sit for the Level I NFHS Coaching Credential.

Graduate career path includes Sports Coach (Youth, Club, National), Talent Identification Officer, Athlete Development Specialist, Strength and Conditioning Coach, Performance Enhancement Specialist,Technical Coach (e.g., football, athletics, basketball), Sports Performance Analyst, Biomechanics Assistant, Fitness Testing Coordinator, Training Load Monitor, Recovery and Rehabilitation Support Staff, Athletics Program Director, School Sports Coordinator, Coach Educator or Trainer, Youth Sports Mentor, Physical Education Instructor, Community Sports Development Officer, Sports Team Manager, Athletics Club Administrator, Sports Event Coordinator, Sports Marketing Assistant, Athlete Welfare Officer.

English Language Requirement

The University of Akron will accept, for the purposes of meeting the English proficiency requirement, English taken in 12-year education, or English is designated as the primary and official language and the principle language of instruction. If you do not meet the English language requirements yet, you can achieve the level you need by successfully completing a pre-sessional English programme with the university or submit 

1. English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 (or equivalent) or PTE Score or Duolingo English Test score before you start your course.
