The Professional Mathematics
Concentration (Advanced Mathematics) of the Bachelor of Science in Mathematics
in the College of Basic and Applied Sciences provides students with a
comprehensive foundation in advanced mathematics at the Undergraduate level. As
the technical sophistication of most professions increases, there is a growing
need for individuals capable of "speaking the language" of
mathematics. Mathematicians increasingly are sought to probe and expand
mathematical theory, as engineering and empirical science delve deeper into
nature. Individuals also are needed to teach math skills that have expanded
into virtually every field. The foundations of our high-tech society rest on
mathematics and problem-solving. Every laptop, every smartphone, and every
video game console relies on mathematics. This provides a professional pathway
for those interested in solving real-world problems as mathematics is the study
of quantity, structure, space, and change. Exploring and understanding the
world in which we live is a matter of mathematical inquiry and discovery.
