As the technical sophistication of most professions increases, there is a growing need for individuals capable of "speaking the language" of mathematics. Mathematicians increasingly are sought to probe and expand mathematical theory, as engineering and empirical science delve deeper into nature. Individuals also are needed to teach math skills that have expanded into virtually every field. The foundations of our high-tech society rest on mathematics and problem-solving. Every laptop, every smartphone, and every video game console relies on mathematics.
