Welcome to the PhD Molecular Medicine

Omics’ technologies allow the components of a living organism to be appreciated in their entirety by providing insight into gene expression, protein synthesis and function and metabolic networking. This course builds upon concepts by covering the basic principles of proteomics and metabolomics and their application in the new systems biology ‘omics’ approach to scientific discovery. This course will emphasize both the methodologies used in proteomics and metabolomics, as well as their applications in both research and medical diagnostic settings.
Students wıll be able to recognise and analyse key research ethical questions, to formulate ethical research plans and responses to ethical challenges by applying key ethical theories and approaches, to recognise and understand key ethical principles guiding research and how they apply to research work, to identify rights and responsibilities as a researcher and to understand how ethical decisions and choices influence society and research community.
Pharmacogenomics is the study of how the genome affects the body’s response to drugs. This branch of science holds the promise that drugs might be tailored for individuals and adapted to a patients personal makeup, thus improving efficacy and safety. Pharmacogenomics combines traditional pharmaceutical sciences such as biochemistry with specific knowledge of genes, proteins, and single nucleotide polymorphisms.
Many of our postgraduates continue their scientific research by taking up postdoctoral positions overseas. Others have embarked on careers in biomedical laboratories and in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, both in research and development.
