This
field is one of the fastest-growing branches of engineering. Strong course
sequences in software, hardware, and systems engineering are available.
Students consider the computer as a system in itself, as a tool for modeling
and design, and as an embedded element within a real-time system. There is the
flexibility for in depth study in areas such as automatic control,
communications, information processing, computer software, computer hardware,
computer networks, robotics, signal processing, and image analysis. The core
areas in ECSE are the foundation of many high impact applications that ECSE
faculty are engaged in, including: Artificial Intelligence and Machine
Learning, Big Data, Internet of Things, Computer Architecture and Hardware
Design, Cybersecurity, Terahertz Communication and Sensing, Robotics and
Automation, Human/Automation Systems, Smart Grid, Renewable Energy Systems,
Smart Buildings, Quantum Systems, Advanced Electronics Materials, and many
others.
