The university certificate in Criminology provides students with a broad, liberal education in social science, criminal justice, and law. Students learn scientific research methods, legal, philosophical and theoretical approaches to aid in understanding crime and related social problems, and social responses to crime. The program builds on the central core of method and theory and affords students opportunities to hone abstract, logical thinking, and understanding of the issues, arguments, and debates that shape the discipline's character. Contemporary criminology courses developed especially for this degree expose students to cutting edge theory and research. This program integrates opportunities to engage in undergraduate research, and practicum placements that provide students with highly transferable and marketable knowledge and skills

The unique community focus of Kwantlen Polytechnic University's criminology programs prepares students for a wide variety of careers in government and the private sector, including careers in traditional criminal justice agencies, law enforcement, and related community agencies. Criminology prepares students for careers in the following areas: Airport Security Officer, Border Patrol Officer, Child Protection Officer, Crime Scene Analyst, Human Rights Officer, Intelligence Officer, Investigator, Juvenile Court Officer, Law Enforcement Officer, Polygraph Technician.
Students can work part time for up to 20 hours per week and full time during academic breaks. After graduation, students from an eligible Designated Learning Institution may apply for work permit up to three years, depending on the length of study and program eligibility.

Kwantlen Polytechnic University accept, for the purposes of meeting the English proficiency requirement, evidence of English study within a 12 year education system where English is designated as the primary and official language and the principal language of instruction. For applicants who do not yet meet the English language requirement, there are two pathways to achieve the necessary level:
Pre sessional English Programme; Students may successfully complete a preparatory English programme offered by the university before beginning their academic course. Recognized English Proficiency Tests; Students may submit one of the following minimum scores prior to the start of their program: IELTS: 6.5 overall band score (or equivalent), TOEFL or PTE: Score of 60, Duolingo English Test: Score of 120.
