You'll study the biology of
organisms ranging from coral reef microbes and marine algae at the base of
marine ecosystems to the diverse invertebrates, abundant fishes and largest
mammals that roam the ocean. You’ll apply this knowledge to understand how marine
life is impacted by factors such as climate change and pollution. This degree
not only teaches you about the subject, it also equips you with the practical,
intellectual and scientific skills to be a practising marine biologist. A marine
biology option is for the student who is preparing to do graduate work in this
area or seek full-time employment in national and state conservation and
resource management agencies, park services, environmental consulting agencies,
and zoological parks, among others. This option includes course work to be
taken at the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory (GCRL) or another comparable
institution. The curriculum includes rigorous coursework in marine
biology, marine ecology, invertebrate zoology and animal biology. Core
courses will prepare you for any area of biology.
Career Path
Whether you want to become a lab
technician or work in the field of conservation, we’ll assist you throughout
your degree to ensure that by the time you graduate you’ll be en route to the
career of your choice. As a Marine Biology student, your career options are as
expansive as the oceans you study. Graduate roles includes; aquarium
Technician, Biological Oceanographer, Conservation Agent, Field Technician, Laboratory
Assistant, Marine Biologist Marine Fisheries Biologist, Marine Mammal Trainer.
