The Master’s Degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (MATESOL) program produces graduates with the skills to train teaching faculty who excel in their roles as educators, creative scholars, and researchers. This program will prepare teachers for a wide variety of positions both in the US and abroad. Our students will be equipped with the specialized knowledge and field skills for teaching English to speakers of other languages. Upon graduation, they will be competent professional educators with demonstrable leadership skills. The performance outcomes which are required for the completion of the program include: class participation, response to discussion questions, writing research papers, group assignments, case study analyses, quizzes, mid-term and final examinations (Comprehensive Learning Assessments).

Graduate careers include ESL/EFL Teacher, English Language Instructor (Universities/Language Institutes), Online English Tutor (Global Platforms), TESOL Program Director, Curriculum Developer, Academic English Instructor (EAP/ESP), Corporate English Trainer (Business English), Language Assessment Specialist (e.g., TOEFL, IELTS), Teacher Trainer), NGO or Refugee Language Program Coordinator, International School Teacher, Education Consultant (Language & Literacy), TESOL Materials Writer/Editor, Language Policy Advisor, University Lecturer or Researcher (TESOL/Applied Linguistics).

English Language Requirement

Westcliff University will accept, for the purposes of meeting the English proficiency requirement, English taken in 12-year education, or English is designated as the primary and official language and the principle language of instruction. If you do not meet the English language requirements yet, you can achieve the level you need by successfully completing a pre-sessional English programme with the university or submit 

1. English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 6.5 (or equivalent) or PTE Score or Duolingo English Test score before you start your course.
